If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

What were they supposed to cut it with before scissors came along?

"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." -- 1 Corinthians 11:14-15

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

God is sort of sadistic. He makes our nature one way, and then demands we behave another.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

How did they cut anything before scissors came along? One is supposed to submit themselves to God - it's that simple. Besides, I think God didn't want people to become androgynous. He wanted the sexes to be male and female not metro-sexual or lesbian-orientating women etc. Report It

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

btw At a certain length hair naturally starts to fall out and I believe I read that the length is shorter for men than for women. Report It

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

"Doth should know my cousin edited the Bible."

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Didn't Jesus have long hair?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Thats retarded.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

I love men with long hair!

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

That's stupid. Is there anything Christianity isn't against? I think guys with long hair are a lot more attractive than guys with short hair.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

This sounds like a relic from the early 60s. I thought we were all past this idea.

now...a man wearing "Daisy Dukes"?...THAT'S shameful!

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

The Bible is a work of fiction written by men who were ignorant by todays standards.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

They had tool,s to cut with back thur the ages.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

who says its shameful?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Jesus was a hippie - what about that?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Who says shameful?

Almost all the prophets have their long hair.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Our Nature made us. Then we got sick with a mental disease called faith and religion. After we got sick we created this delusional being named god and gave him authority over mother nature which is our true creator. Mother nature doesn't like this at all and it's preparing a hell of a ride for us to teach us a valuable lesson.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Jesus had long hair.

Fundamentalist 'christians' today would probably call him a dirty f'ing hippy, and crucify him (at least metaphorically).

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

If you don't believe in the Bible, you shouldn't sweat what's in it.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

when that was writen it was totaly uncool for men to have long hair

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Man created all these rules, not God. It's just a way for man to control things. A man with long hair might have been seen as "untidy" for not taking care of himself. While a woman was to cover herself with her hair so men wouldn't see her body and find her attractive, since that could lead to lust, which is a "sin". People have been cutting with knives, sharp rocks, sharp bones, etc forever. How do you think cavemen cut apart their kill? The invention of scissors just made things easier.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Well not that I follow that practice as I am not Christian but I don't understand how you don't understand submission and obedience to God? Could is possibly be that life is a test from God? A persons submission and obedience, even in something that people may consider petty, is part of being a good servant of God.

Do you really think scissors is the only thing that cuts?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Nature makes hair grow , not "god" .

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

This is a really screwy verse. God obviously didn't think that Sampson's long hair was "shameful".

I would like to know exactly how the author came to the conclusion that nature somehow "teaches" that long hair is shameful.

I'm sure they cut their hair with sharp knifes before the invention of scissors.

This is one of those verses that some Christians claim are "cultural". They say that these verses applied in that time and culture but not necessarily our time and culture. However, if God was going to put verses in the Bible that were only applicable under certain conditions, he really should have made sure to clarify which verses are like this. Otherwise, people can say this about any verse they don't like.

This kind of Bible verse shows an obvious weakness in the Bible and Christianity, (or at least the variety of Christianity that claims Biblical infallibility).

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Uh....what?

There have always been accepted manner of dress and grooming for men and women.

Before scissors...knives were used. This scripture refers to men with hair "like women" appearing to be women...you know ...!!!

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

And if God wanted us to cut off our foreskins, why did he put them there in the first place?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

I guess this is why some people still accept the speedo while rejecting the thong bikini. Apparently, wemone are meant to be covered and me aren't.

Who knew there was Biblical support for the speedo?!

Edit: it was probably pretty obvious why military men shouldn't have long hair in the age of hand-to-hand combat, but now? What? Is his hair going to get tangled in his assault rifle or something?

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

I think it's a matter of physically distinguishing men from women.

Because Eve probably had long hair we could have stand from a distance and say "hey here comes Eve....not Steve..."

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Free will

Knives

And this is Paul's blathering, isn't it? They really shouldn't allow a Christian persecutor to dictate the religion.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

If you study this out you will find that this scripture is not referring to the length of hair being shameful in and of itself. It is speaking of men who grow their hair long to be effeminate, which the bible condemns adamantly.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

Man made a lot of mistakes, when he written the Bible.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

my hubby had long hair,,it kept hitting me in the face when we went for a ride on the cycle,,so he donated it to locks of love ,,and started growing it long again,,to donate it again,,,i don't think it is shameful,, ,, that's just the follicly challenged ppls whinning about having no hair

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

the knife was probably the first tool man ever invented, so cutting it would not have been difficult. how, though, does this explain the story of sampson who was a member of the nazerite sect that was forbidden to cut their hair or beards? this is just another example of how Paul was more the author of modern christianity than jesus ever was.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

I'd like to know where you got the ridiculous idea that long hair on a man was "shameful". It's pretty obvious why it isn't practicable for men in the armed forces to have long locks, but nobody but a blinkered idiot these days thinks there is a thing wrong with a man having long hair. It's obviously important for it to be clean and well kept of course, but that's a matter of common hygiene, not length.

If men having long hair is shameful, then why did god give them follicles that allow it to grow?

I think that passage was meant to teach the men of that era that hygiene is important. Remember, back when the bible was written, there were no showers. Only holes with water in them. There were no hair care products, only soap made completely of animal lard.

Men worked in the field all day, made things, ect, and got very sweaty. Long hair and a long beard not only gets in your way while working, but is harder to clean after getting sweaty and dirty.

Women worked as well in those days, but were expected to stay in the house. A woman's hair was also seen in a very alluring, sexual way.

And so, since I believe alot of that era's culture was used to influence what God "said" in the bible by the men who wrote it, that passage was probably put in there to help regulate hygiene.

Or it could just be that the religious leaders of the time didn't like long hair (like adults didn't like the long hair of the hippies in the 60's) and decided to make a "law" to do something about their minor annoyance with a hair style.

Bottom line, I doubt that's what God actually said and I doubt it would apply today.
